From Vineyard to Verified: How Planet of the Grapes and Martina Spetlova Turned Grape Waste into a Traceable Design Icon
Future Fabrics Expo 2025, the flagship sustainability event of London Climate Action Week, spotlighted new materials with traceable origins. Planet of the Grapes and designer Martina Spetlova launched Remnant Rebel N°3, a stool crafted from a grape-based leather alternative. Their challenge? Telling a rich, complex story of sustainability—transparently and interactively—without losing the emotional connection to craft and innovation.
SmartDPP created a Digital Product Passport (DPP) that brought Remnant Rebel N°3 to life digitally. This mobile-friendly, scan-to-access passport with a virtual try-on experience and a commitment to full transparency. Visitors at the event could engage with the product’s material journey—from hand-harvested grape waste in Provence to final design—while discovering the sustainability metrics behind it.
At the Expo, visitors could scan the QR-tagged plinth and explore the Remnant Rebel N°3 passport directly on their phones. They accessed everything from biomaterial data to behind-the-scenes content—proving the product’s transparency claims with verifiable detail. The augmented reality try-on lens let attendees visualise the stool in their own space, merging sustainability with interactivity.
Many talk about sustainability. Few can show it—layer by layer, traceable to origin. SmartDPP empowers designers and material innovators to offer proof, not just promises. With the grape-based leather crafted from vineyard waste, this collaboration showcased what happens when ethical storytelling meets digital tools. The result? A new benchmark in product transparency.
